Hot sand and cold water. The perfect beach day. And the perfect day to
discuss the plausibility of zombies. Not the first time, not going to be the
last time. This debate pops up in our little convoy of misguided souls every now
and then with surprisingly different results.
After deciding (this time) that with life forms that exist on this planet it is not possible for something to die and reanimate, the topic shifted to the best or at least our favorite virus movies. Among the top tiered were
Shaun of the Dead, 28 Weeks Later, Contagion, and Zombieland.
My girlfriend loves the Resident Evil video games (a major reason why I
love her) and I do have a few shirts that say Umbrella with a certain red and
white logo on the back but! Let's separate the video game franchise from
the movie franchise. The first (and debatably) the second Resident Evil movies
were decent. After that . . .
Well, what's new in the writing world? My story Intrinsic is up
today at The Writer's Arena. Click here to go to the thread, read, and
vote! The way the arena works is, two writers are given a prompt - the one for
my entry was 'machines that make art' - and then ten days to write a story under
5,000 words. The stories are posted for two days, judged based on two judges and
the number of votes each gets, then a winner is crowned.
This was my first time writing after a prompt (with exception to grade
school which for the life of me I can't remember if it actually happened or not)
and I have to say getting the idea was easier then I thought. Formulating the
story around the idea however. Wow. That was difficult and the added constraint
of time probably did not help. But it was a lot of fun, I'm stoked to have a
story in the arena and can't wait to see the results.
A few new reviews will be posted soon, the first being Road Ends by Mary
Lawson. A damn good book that is worth checking out.
Till next time.
